Deacon

In its earliest form (meeting informally for worship), small groups were led by both men and women called diákonos (διάκονος), a word that is translated into English as either “deacon” or “deaconess.” That Greek word means “servant.”¹ It was in these home meetings where original Christians worshipped and learned of Christ and Christianity.²
