(Covenant of Christ) Alma 13:6

And king Lamoni wouldn’t permit Ammon to serve or be his servant. ... He also declared to them that while he ruled, they would be free people, independent of the king, his father, because his father had given him the independent right to rule the people in the land of Ishmael and the surrounding area. ... He announced to them that they were free to worship the Lord who is God as they wished, in any part of the land under the control of king Lamoni. ... Ammon also preached to king Lamoni’s people. ... After leaving Middoni, he was led by the Spirit to the land of Nephi, right to the house of the king who was over the whole land other than the land of Ishmael; and he was Lamoni’s father.

(Covenant of Christ) Alma 13:7

Aaron and his companions went to see him at the king’s palace, bowed before the king, and said to him: Your majesty, we are Ammon’s companions whom you’ve freed from prison. ... And now, O king, if you will spare our lives, we will be your servants. ... And the king said to them: Stand up, for you are safe here. ... Then the king said: How do you explain the Spirit of the Lord? ... And the king said: I know that the Amlicites say there’s a God.

(Covenant of Christ) Alma 13:8

And the king said: Is God that Great Spirit who brought our ancestors out of the land of Jerusalem?

(Covenant of Christ) Alma 13:9

When Aaron saw the king was willing to believe his words, he began at the creation of Adam, reading the scriptures to the king, how God created mankind in His own image and likeness, and that God gave them commandments, and because of transgression, mankind had fallen. ... Aaron covered all these things in teaching the king. ... After Aaron had explained these things to him, the king asked: What must I do so I can have this eternal life that you’ve spoken about?

(Covenant of Christ) Alma 13:10

When Aaron had said this, the king bowed down to the Lord on his knees, even lying face down on the ground, and prayed earnestly, saying: O God, Aaron has told me that there is a God. ... Now when the king had said these words, he passed out, and he looked like he was dead.

(Covenant of Christ) Alma 13:11

His servants ran and told the queen everything that had happened to the king, and she went to see him. ... When she saw him lying there looking like he was dead, and Aaron and his companions on their feet, looking like they had killed him, she got angry and commanded her servants — or the king’s servants — to take them and execute them. ... But the servants had seen what caused the king to pass out.

(Covenant of Christ) Alma 13:12

So he put out his hand and helped the king up from the ground saying to him: Stand up! ... And the king stood up and began to testify to them, and he taught them so that his whole household was converted to the Lord. ... But the king interrupted them and testified to them.

(Covenant of Christ) Alma 13:13

When the king saw the people were reconciled, he had Aaron and his companions come and preach to them from the middle of the crowd. ... Then the king sent a proclamation throughout the land, among everyone and all the surrounding areas, which extended from sea borders, east to the west, and divided from the land of Zarahemla by a narrow corridor of wilderness located there.

(Covenant of Christ) Alma 14:1

Now the king of the Lamanites sent a proclamation to all his people that they were to leave Ammon, Aaron, Omner, and Himni alone, as well as any of their companions who were preaching God’s word, in any place they went, in any part of their land. ... As a result they were permitted to go out and preach the word as they wished, because the king and his whole household had been converted to the Lord.

(Covenant of Christ) Alma 14:2

Now after the king’s proclamation, Aaron and his companions went from city to city and from one house of worship to another, establishing congregations and consecrating priests and teachers everywhere in the land among the Lamanites to preach and teach God’s word to them.

(Covenant of Christ) Alma 14:4

Now the king and those people who were converted wanted to be named, to be distinguished from their fellow Lamanites. ... So the king consulted with Aaron and a group of their priests about a new name to take upon themselves, so they could be recognized as distinct.

(Covenant of Christ) Alma 14:5

Their hatred for them became extreme, so much so they began to rebel against their king, rejecting him as their king.

(Covenant of Christ) Alma 14:6

Now the king conferred the kingdom on his son, and he named him Anti-Nephi-Lehi. ... And the king died the very same year the Lamanites prepared for war against the people of God. ... They refused to even prepare for war, and their king also commanded them not to do so.

(Covenant of Christ) Alma 14:9

When the king had finished saying these things, and all the people were assembled, they took their swords and weapons used to kill people and they buried them deep in the ground.

(Covenant of Christ) Alma 14:10

Their brethren prepared for war and entered the land of Nephi to overthrow the king and put another in his place, and to destroy the people of Anti-Nephi-Lehi there.

(Covenant of Christ) Alma 15:2

So when Ammon and his companions saw this brutal slaughter, they were overwhelmed with compassion, and they suggested to the king: Let’s gather this people of the Lord, and let’s go down to the land of Zarahemla to the Nephites and escape from our enemies, so we won’t be destroyed. ... But the king responded: The Nephites will kill us because of the many murders and sins we’ve committed against them. ... And the king replied: Yes, if the Lord says to go, we’ll go down to the Nephites. ... And so the king said: Then go ahead and ask the Lord, and if He tells us, Go, we’ll go.

(Covenant of Christ) Alma 15:4

Now Ammon repeated to the king everything the Lord told him.

(Covenant of Christ) Alma 21:6

Amalickiah wanted to be a king; and those people who were angry also wanted him to be their king. ... They had been persuaded by Amalickiah’s promises that if they would support him and establish him to be their king, then he would make them rulers over the people.

(Covenant of Christ) Alma 21:17

He had taken those who were with him and gone up into the land of Nephi among the Lamanites, and there he stirred up the Lamanites to be angry with the Nephites; this resulted in the Lamanite king sending a proclamation throughout his land among all his people that they were to gather again to go to battle against the Nephites.

(Covenant of Christ) Alma 21:18

They were afraid to displease the king; and they also were afraid to go to battle against the Nephites, fearing they might lose their lives. ... And so they refused — or most of them refused — to obey the king’s command.

(Covenant of Christ) Alma 21:19

Now the king was furious because of their disobedience. ... Now this was what Amalickiah wanted; and because he was evil and cunning, he planned in his heart to dethrone the Lamanite king. ... Now he had obtained command over the king’s loyal Lamanites, and he planned to get the trust of the disloyal. ... They had appointed a man as king and leader over them, because they were determined they wouldn’t be forced to fight the Nephites.

(Covenant of Christ) Alma 21:20

Now it wasn’t Amalickiah’s objective to fight a battle as the king had commanded. ... But it was his plan to gain the favor of the Lamanite armies, so he could place himself at their head and dethrone the king and take the kingdom.

(Covenant of Christ) Alma 21:22

When Lehonti went down to Amalickiah with his guards, Amalickiah asked him to come down with his army at night and surround those men, in their camps, which the king had given him to command.

(Covenant of Christ) Alma 21:24

He surrendered his men, against the king’s commands. ... Now this was what Amalickiah wanted, so that he could accomplish his scheme to dethrone the king.

(Covenant of Christ) Alma 21:25

But as the king came out to meet him, Amalickiah had his servants go forward to meet the king. ... They went forward and bowed before the king, as if to show him respect for his prominence. ... And the king put out his hand to raise them, as was the custom with the Lamanites and a sign of peace, imitating the Nephite custom. ... When he had raised the first one from the ground, he stabbed the king in the heart and he fell to the ground. ... Then the king’s servants fled.
