Therefore, if it were possible that ye could have just men to be your kings, who would establish the laws of God and judge this people according to his commandments, yea, if ye could have men for your kings who would do even as my father Benjamin did for this people, I say unto you, if this could always be the case, then it would be expedient that ye should always have kings to rule over you.
Then I came to the governors beyond the river and gave them the king’s letters. ... Now the king had sent captains of the army and horsemen with me. ... Then I went on to the gate of the fountain and to the king’s pool, but there was no place for the beast that was under me to pass.
Now this was what Ammon desired, for he knew that king Lamoni was under the power of God; he knew that the dark veil of unbelief being cast away from his mind, and the light which did light up his mind — which was the light of the glory of God, which was a marvelous light of his goodness — yea, this light had infused much joy into his soul, the cloud of darkness having been dispelled, and that the light of everlasting life was lit up in his soul. ... Therefore, he went in to see the king according as the queen had desired him; and he saw the king and he knew that he was not dead.
