Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the Lord spoken by the mouth of Jeremiah might be accomplished, the Lord stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying, Thus says Cyrus king of Persia: All the kingdoms of the earth has the Lord God of Heaven given me.
And the king loved Esther above all the women, and she obtained grace and favor in his sight more than all the virgins, so that he set the royal crown upon her head and made her queen instead of Vashti. ... Then the king made a great feast unto all his princes and his servants, even Esther’s feast. ... And he made a release to the provinces and gave gifts according to the state of the king.
Now the pit, wherein Ishmael had cast all the dead bodies of the men whom he had slain because of Gedaliah, was it which Asa the king had made for fear of Baasha king of Israel. ... Wherefore, king Darius signed the writing and the decree.
And the people were desirous that Alma should be their king, for he was beloved by his people. ... But he said unto them, Behold, it is not expedient that we should have a king, for thus saith the Lord: Ye shall not esteem one flesh above another, or one man shall not think himself above another. ... Therefore I say unto you, it is not expedient that ye should have a king; nevertheless, if it were possible that ye could always have just men to be your kings, it would be well for you to have a king; but remember the iniquity of king Noah and his priests. ... And now it came to pass that the queen, when she had heard that the king was slain — for Amalickiah had sent an embassy to the queen, informing her that the king had been slain by his servants, that he had pursued them with his army, but it was in vain and they had made their escape — therefore, when the queen had received this message, she sent unto Amalickiah, desiring him that he would spare the people of the city. ... Now when Gideon had heard these things, he being the king’s captain, he went forth and said unto the king, I pray thee forbear and do not search this people, and lay not this thing to their charge. ... And now behold, and tell the king of these things, that he may tell his people, that they may be pacified towards us. ... And except the king doth pacify them towards us, we must perish. ... And when these days were expired, the king made a feast unto all the people that were present in Shushan the palace, both unto great and small, seven days in the court of the garden of the king’s palace, where were white, green, and blue hangings fastened with cords of fine linen and purple to silver rings and pillars of marble. ... And they gave them drink in vessels of gold — the vessels being diverse one from another — and royal wine in abundance, according to the state of the king. ... And the drinking was according to the law, none did compel, for so the king had appointed to all the officers of his house that they should do according to every man’s pleasure. ... Also, Vashti the queen made a feast for the women in the royal house which belonged to king Ahasuerus.
And now it came to pass that when Abinadi had finished these sayings, that the king commanded that the priests should take him and cause that he should be put to death. ... Therefore he began to plead with the king that he would not be angry with Abinadi, but suffer that he might depart in peace. ... But the king was more wroth, and caused that Alma should be cast out from among them, and sent his servants after him that they might slay him.

And moreover, in time past, even when Saul was king, you were he that led out and brought in Israel. ... Therefore came all the elders of Israel to the king, to Hebron, and David made a covenant with them in Hebron before the Lord. ... And the king sent and called for Shimei, and said unto him, Build yourself a house in Jerusalem and dwell there, and go not forth from there to anywhere; for it shall be that on the day you go out and pass over the brook Kidron, you shall know for certain that you shall surely die. ... Then Hiram the king of Tyre answered in writing, which he sent to Solomon: Because the Lord has loved his people, he has made you king over them. ... Hiram said moreover, Blessed be the Lord God of Israel that made heaven and earth, who has given to David the king a wise son, endowed with prudence and understanding, that might build a house for the Lord and a house for his kingdom.

Now when Athaliah heard the noise of the people running and praising the king, she came to the people, into the house of the Lord. ... And she looked, and behold, the king stood at his pillar at the entering in, and the princes and the trumpets by the king.
