Without Beginning of Days

The highest form of priesthood, the Holy Order, is without beginning of days or end of years (see Alma 9:10), because it does not originate in “time” or in mortality. It is without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days nor end of life (see Hebrews 1:17) because it does not come from a mortal to another mortal, but from heaven itself. The Holy Order is something that was from the foundation of the world or, in other words, reckons from before mortal life.1 “Because the qualification and ordination was first accomplished from the foundation of the world, it took place before the first day was set for this world. Therefore it is without any beginning of days. And because that authority will endure into the afterlife, it will not come to any end in this world where years are counted. Hence it is ‘from eternity to all eternity.’”1429 It may be said of those holding this form of Holy Order to be “from the pre-earth life, through mortality, and into the eternal afterlife.”3See also HOLY ORDER; MELCHIZEDEK PRIESTHOOD; PATRIARCHAL PRIESTHOOD; SOUL/SPIRIT/BODY OF MAN.
