Part 11 (February 1829)

  1. I did not, however, go immediately to translating, but went to laboring with my hands upon a small farm which I had purchased of my wife’s father in order to provide for my family. In the month of February, eighteen hundred and twenty-nine, my father came to visit us, at which time I received the following revelation for him:
  2. A revelation to Joseph Smith Sr., given February 1829.

  3. Now behold, a marvelous work is about to come forth among the children of men, Therefore, O you that embark in the service of God, see that you serve him with all your heart, might, mind, and strength, that you may stand blameless before God at the last day. Therefore, if you have desires to serve God, you are called to the work, for behold, the field is white already to harvest, and lo, he that thrusts in his sickle with his might, the same lays up in store that he perish not, but brings salvation to his soul. And faith, hope, charity, and love, with an eye single to the glory of God, qualifies him for the work.
  4. Remember faith, virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, brotherly kindness, godliness, charity, humility, diligence. Ask and you shall receive, knock and it shall be opened unto you. Amen.
